Elvis and the Kama Sutra

One of the questions I am always curious to know about a person is for them to tell me something about themselves that other people might not guess right away about them. It could be a peculiar interest, an exciting hobby or a bizarre experience that might not happen to everyone in their lifetime. As you apply this principle in the realm of Sacred Sensuality, one must become comfortable with the 'unexpected' and not fear exploring different sides of their personality. I am about to share with you my response to the very same question that might amuse you. I am guilty of being infatuated with Elvis. That's right: when Nayka drives around in her HeartacheHelper car, she is probably crooning a tune from Elvis's Best of CD.

What is so spectacular about Elvis besides his amazing songwriting and singing abilities is how he was very much in tune with exploring the various aspects of Love and relationships. My earliest childhood memories are of my father and his brother hanging Elvis records on the wall and wearing long sideburns while crooning his various songs throughout the house. Sometimes I'd catch both of them singing competitively with each other alongside their idol, and a few tears would brush their faces when connecting to a particular emotion in the song. Music has a powerful ability to take us as individuals outside of the EGO and into pure, unadulterated emotion. It transforms us, it allows us to process, it can romance someone, and it can create perfect states of bliss when we need it to. It can even teach us about Love when we pay enough attention to it.

So what would Elvis have shown us if he could about Tantra and the Kama Sutra through his music? Let's examine some of his song titles and imagine possible "Eastern-inspired" messages he may have wanted us all to learn:

A Big Hunk O' Love:

A Fool Such as I
A Little Less Conversation

A Matter of Time
A Mess of Blues

A Woman's Love (Thrill of Your Love)

A World of Our Own

Adam and Evil
All Right, Okay, You Win

All Shook Up

All That I Am

Bitter They Are, Harder They Fall

Change of Habit

Do You Enjoy Your Work

Do You Know Who I Am?

Don't Be Cruel

Don't Forbid Me

Don't Think Twice, It's All Right

Easy Come, Easy Go

Faithful and True
Fire Down Below
Follow That Dream
For the Heart

Free the Lady

Gentle on My Mind
Got My Mojo Working

Happy Ending

Hard Headed Woman

Have I Told You Lately That I Love You

He Is My Everything

He Knows Just What I Need

He Touched Me
Hearts of Stone
Honey, Honey, Honey, Treat Me Nice

Home Is Where the Heart Is
How Do You Relax

How Do You Think I Feel

How Long Can You Give Love

How Would You Like to Be?

I Believe

I Can't Stop Loving You

I Got a Feelin' in My Body

I Just Can't Make It by Myself

I Love You Because

I Want to Be Free
I Want You, I Need You, I Love You

Learning the Game

Let Yourself Go
Love Me, Love the Life I Lead

Love Me Tender
Make Me Know It
Queen of the Night
Seeing is Believing

Shake Rattle & Roll

Slowly But Surely
Steadfast, Loyal and True

Stuck on You
Such a Night
Talk About the Good Times
Tell Me Why

That's My Desire
The Thrill of Your Love

There's Good Rockin' Tonight
Tiger Man
Today, Tomorrow and Forever

Tonight Is So Right For Love

True Love Travels on a Gravel Road

These are all just titles of his songs but when one truly listens to Elvis enough, you realize that the man NEVER got tired about singing about Love. There are no perfect relationships or perfect people; there is no "right" formula to the path of ecstasy through love. One cannot be defined only by a single moment but through a series of ongoing experiences and moments that constantly serve to transform us from the ordinary into the EXTRAORDINARY. What Elvis teaches us through his message on Love through his music is that you should never tire of it, never stop trying to experience it, give yourself over to it fully and keep on trying even when it hurts.

So what got me thinking about Elvis this week? A friend of mine passed along the link to a YouTube video of an unknown singer from Kentucky, Dan Hardin, singing a few songs. When I listened to this fresh voice, not only was I taken by the amazing talent he has but by how much he reminded me of a younger Elvis. Do stop by his site to hear a few of his songs: I believe you will hear this amazing crooner in the next few years once signed. I can just *feel* it. My favorites are:
